Seventeen Weeks

Jacob and I have recently noticed that Luke's features are looking more like a little boy and less like a little baby. He is just too fun these days! He has a cute little giggle, and he loves silly sounds, like when we oink like pigs. Oh, the things we do to make this guy laugh. We’re pretty goofy around here. Luke is rolling around like a champ. When he gets on his tummy he goes after his toys by trying to pivot around and inch forward. He also loves lying on his back next to us while we read stories. He likes to grab at the pages and will turn them with a little help from mom and dad.

Unfortunately I have fewer pictures since I’m back at work full time. Well, maybe I went a little overboard during the summer, so I’m back to a more reasonable amount of pictures. This was my first full week with students in the classroom, and boy was I tired. When I get a chance to sit down and get some planning, paperwork, and grading done, it means it is time to pump. Luke has been eating so well at the sitter’s that I have had to pump extra to fill his bottles for the next day. A couple of days this week I pumped in the morning, twice at work, and twice in the evening. All this while continuing to nurse him in the mornings and evenings. Whew. Things are going well, but I have noticed that it’s difficult to keep up with housework, cooking, and exercising when I just want to come home and play with our little guy. I’m sure we’ll figure out a routine, but for now, I’m quite content with pushing those other things aside and making him the priority. That meant we had Shakespeare’s pizza for dinner one night and scrounged up odds and ends from the refrigerator another night. It also meant my laundry sat in the washer and remained wet for two days until I discovered that I had never put it in the dryer. Ew! But, the important thing is that Luke is happy, and I have something amazing to look forward to coming home to everyday. I tried to head out of work by 4:30 pm each day, even though it meant I had to I head back up to work for a late night catch up session after Luke went to bed.

I can tell Luke is getting used to the new routine of going to the sitter. He comes home pretty tired and needs a little catnap, even though he has been napping well during the day. It takes a lot of energy to watch all those other kids play. I had to laugh when I he fell asleep in the most uncomfortable position ever (or it seemed that way) this week. He was sucking on Jacob’s finger, while his neck was cocked back and to the side. Sound asleep. Check it out:

But, he generally looks much more peaceful when he sleeps.

Luke is so lucky! Everybody brings him presents from their vacations. Recently Grandpa Rogers and Cousin Morgan went on a motorcycle trip. In Sturgis, they picked out this awesome outfit.

Luke is all smiles for his biker gear. He even likes to put his hands out like he's revving up his bike.

When Luke saw the girls last weekend, he got presents from them too. Here he is with a new toy and some new outfits.

With as busy as we are now, I’m so glad I had some time this summer to finish a few projects for Luke. Here’s a sample of what I made:

Shadow box of items from his birth

Letters above crib

Month by month picture display (made one for my mom, my mother-in-law, and for us)

Scrapbook of my pregnancy and his first few weeks

We may be busier now, but we are certainly enjoying our little Lukey.
