14 Months

Luke is looking so big! Where did our little baby go?
Our 14 month old boy is just so happy, friendly, loving, and clever.

Peeking around to see Daddy...

The biggest change I've noticed over the past month is I've realized how much Luke knows exactly what is going on around him.
-If we tell Luke it's time to eat, he runs to his high chair.
-If we tell Luke it's time to change is diaper, he runs to the changing table in his room.
-If we tell Luke to go downstairs, he stands at the top of the stairs by the gate.
-If we tell Luke to go upstairs, he runs to the door that leads upstairs.
-Luke points to ipod speakers in the living room when he wants to listen to music. Then, he reaches for me to pick him up and dance. He always laughs when we spin and leap around the living room.
-If we tell Luke it's time to take a bath, he runs to the bathtub and starts to take off his shirt.
-If we tell Luke it's time for a wagon ride or walk, he runs to the door.

Luke can also show he understands so many words (literally too many to count).
-Luke is really good at finding pictures in books. If you ask him, "Where's the _____," he will turn the pages, locate, and point to the item/food/animal you ask for.
-Luke knows the name for different articles of clothing (shirt, socks, shoes), and he "helps" dress and undress himself.
-Luke can identify so many body parts. He knows head, nose, ear, mouth, eye, chin, elbow, knee, foot, hand, toes, tummy/belly.
-Luke has added a few more words to his vocabulary: he can say bye-bye, spoon, and bubbles. He also says "Dad-dee!" and Mama a lot. He says "ot" for dog.

-Luke eats pretty much all foods. He still loves to eat bananas for breakfast. He just started liking the texture of scrambled eggs, and he recently tried (and loved) blueberries. He even ate a little bit of peanut butter this week, and he had no allergic reaction (thank goodness!).
-Luke has 9 teeth and the other 3 molars are just under the surface of his gums.
-Luke sleeps so well at night! He goes to bed around 8:00 pm and usually wakes up close to 9:00 am! He even slept until 9:30 am last Saturday. He takes two naps (from 10:30ish-12:00 and from 3:30-4:30). Sometimes he likes to play in his crib instead of sleep during his second nap. What a difference a year makes with the way our one year old sleeps compared to how our newborn slept.
-Luke uses a spoon and can drink from a regular cup. He no longer drinks from a bottle. Since I've been home from work this summer, he has hardly had any bottles. It was no problem for him to transition. I can't say I miss washing all those bottles!
-Luke tries to walk up and down the stairs rather than crawling. He needs a lot of help to do this.
-Luke loves to turn knobs, lids, and dials. He turns knobs on dressers, finds knobs to turn when we are out, screws the cap on and off his squeeze packets of food, turns the lids on and off containers over and over again, and loves the light dimmer knob at Grandma and Grandpa's house.
-He is really good at giving open mouth kisses and hugs.
-Luke loves to wave and has started blowing kisses. He also loves clapping for himself when he makes a basket and when he wants to play pat-a-cake.

-During play time, Luke still chooses to play with balls and especially likes shooting baskets. His other most common activity is to look through books. He points to pictures and says, "dat!" He also continues to love playing with light switches.
-Luke is very comfortable in water. He doesn't mind getting his face wet, and he loves the pool, bathtub, and splash park.

We are continuing to enjoy our summer...
Roar!

Luke is still loving the Little Gym. Going in for the dunk...

Score!

Crawling through the doughnut mat.

Listening to his teacher during bubble time.

Luke rode Henry the Hy-vee horse for the first time this week. If you ask the checker for a token on your way out, you can ride Henry for free.

Luke was impressed with the way Henry bucks.

Luke loves his books. Goodnight Gorilla continues to be a favorite.

I was so excited when I heard the sound of the Kona Ice truck coming by our house this week. Grandma was here visiting, and she was glad to get a treat on a hot day too.

Luke took a bite of his snow cone before we even flavored it with syrup.

Yummm...

Even though it was very cold, Luke loved it!

We took Grandma to the splash park on Wednesday.

Luke was brave enough to walk over the fountains.

We spent two days at the pool this week. On Thursday we met up with Shannon, Luke's sitter, and another one of her kids. On Friday we hung out with Judy. Even though we ate lunch before we came to the pool, Luke ate most of Judy's lunch at the pool too. He ate about half of her ham and cheese croissant, bites of grapes, and then picked up a tomato slice and ate the entire thing. He must be growing, because his appetite amazes me.

We hung out with both sets of grandparents over the weekend. First we ate lunch in Glasgow, then we  sipped wine and listened to live music at Bushwhacker Bend winery.
Luke is going for the windblown look...

Then, we listened to music at the Slater Blues Fest. Even though we were caught in a rainstorm, we stayed to enjoy music late into the night.
Walking up to the festival with cousin, Morgan.

Checking out the scene

On Sunday, during breakfast, Luke got to try a bite of doughnut. Look at his reaction.
Do you think he liked it?
