Back to School

During my first three days back at work, Luke stayed at Grammy and Grandpa Rogers' house.
He played on the train engine at the park.

He laughed and laughed and laughed while Papa tossed him on the bed.

Then, over the weekend, we walked around campus and saw the students had returned for a new school year.
Luke is ready for football season to start!

Running around the columns

Heading off to college?!

We discovered Luke's first food allergy over the weekend. I noticed his face broke out in hives as he was eating hummus. I'm guessing it's the sesame seeds, but I think we'll be setting up an appointment with the allergist soon.

Luke's first day at his sitter's house was on Monday. The first day couldn't have been any smoother. I dropped Luke off and he went right to his sitter's 9 year old son. He LOVES her son so much, and he is so sweet to give Luke lots of attention. Luke didn't even cry when I walked out the door. I really do think he remembered everyone and was very comfortable.

Here is Luke on his first day of "school."
Year 2 at Shannon's:

When I went to pick Luke up after school, I headed around to the back yard to find him swinging. When he saw me, he smiled as wide as he could, and exclaimed, "MOMMA!" Then, he looked to each person and back to me as he continued to say, "Momma." It was as if he was telling everyone, "That's my MOM!" I picked him up and he sweetly placed his little hand on my cheek saying "Momma" once again. My heart melted. It's not hard to go back to work when you know you get to be greeted like that after work. Luke had a great first day. He ate well, played basketball, read books, and played outside.

As we walked to the car, I told Luke, "Momma is so happy to see you." He turned to me, and said, "happy!" Yes, Luke, we're all happy!

Ever since our recent trip to the zoo, Luke has been loving animals. He now says the names of many animals, and he started imitating animal sounds.
He knows:
Gorilla (beats on his chest)
Elephant
Donkey
Tiger
Fish (sucks in cheeks)
Dog
Cat

These videos show a sample of what he knows.

Luke now likes to sleep with his stuffed animals.
Here's a photo of him on the video monitor. He's fast asleep with his puffin tucked under his arm.

Hanging out with his friends

The library had another "Discovery Days" event, and the theme was nursery rhymes. Luke's favorite was "Hey Diddle Diddle," because he loves seeing the moon. In fact, he loves to spot the moon outside in the sky or in books.

Luke be nimble, Luke be quick, Luke jump over the candle stick.

Having a full week of work made the days fly by. Before I knew it, it was the weekend again. We went to a friend's 3rd birthday party. Luke's favorite part was the cake and ice-cream, of course.

After he finished his piece, he cleaned off my piece too.
Looking ravenous here:

We hit the pool one last time before it closes for the season.

Jacob and I took turns going down the slide with Luke.

Luke shooting baskets from his chair.

Luke decided to wear Daddy's shirt.

This week we attended a "Messy Night" at the park. There were so many fun things set up for the kids to do. Luke painted, felt sensory bags, "washed" dishes, and played with shaving cream.

He dug in "moon" sand, blew bubbles, and went "fishing" with Daddy.

He also loved playing in the big sand pit.

But, his favorite was running through the sprinkler!
